5th Element

Hey yall,

I know I have not written much on this blog and i hope you can forgive me. As usual i have tons going on and since blogger doesn't work well on my blackberry it's hard to write any entries. BUT since i have you guys now, just wanted to inform you guys on a few things. First, "A Writer's Dream" is still on the way but since there's been a GRAND delay, i will try and release a bunch of solo tracks for you. I haven't been able to get into the studio much and when i do it's been for an hour and that is a rather depressing fact...trust, the show will go on though.

So as some of you know (or don't know), i joined a group from College Point- my hometown, called "The Council." They/we make a lot of dope music, i put them on to my engineer's studio, so it was only right for me to be down with their movement. Regardless, of several indiscretions, things are going well now. We performed this Thursday and teared the place down and we also have a mix-tape on the way titled "The 5th Element." There will be skits from the movie as well as a couple surprise joints. There will be about 14/15 songs on the mix-tape and i should be on about 9 or 10 of them. So even though, my solo debut is on hold for the moment at least you guys can enjoy our group music. Think of me the way you think of Wale. He's a group and a solo artist now. So, new music will be released and thank for reading...who ever still does.

Progress

As the summer comes to a close, and the colleges begin re-opening their doors to the fresh high school graduates...one of the only words i can think of IS "progress" or rather progression. I have a YEAR. ONE. Which really is 7-8 months if you add summer and vacation to prove something to myself. NOT only concerning school BUT with basketball, WITH music, and with my own insecurities. Including my body. Well when it comes to all that, i really only have 2 months to get the corrections needed to be done, to get done. And I'm doing a pretty solid job so far but after playing my first game (in the park), i realize i am really rusty. and now really frustrated. but with hard work this frustration may lead to excelling. and by excelling i may get confidence and with confidence my world opens up into a universe and the possibilities become limitless. So regardless of how i feel now, i must know that progress is my friend and TIME is my enemy. So progress...here i come

Patience and Consistency

*The excerpt below was written by Shake from 2dopeboyz

"My only advice? Patience. It’s easy to get all uppity and start saying negative things about the websites, radio DJs, etc when they don’t post your stuff. But you’ve gotta understand that we all have lives of our own. And there are much more artists than bloggers, writers, DJs, etc. Much more! So timing is crucial. I honestly try to take time out to listen to new acts but most of it’s either the same recycle bin shit or it’s obvious there wasn’t much time put into the craft. Technology today makes it so easy for anyone to download an instrumental, record a rhyme using their laptop’s microphone and send an email (or thirty thousand Twitter messages) with a link. I understand the hustle and I understand the desire to be heard, but some folks have an insane false sense of entitlement. Just because you sent something doesn’t mean it NEEDS to be up on the site. When I come across dope new artists I shed light on them. And you can search the site for proof. There is a lot more to running 2dbz than most people think and it takes a load of time out of our daily schedule. So it’s physically impossible to listen to EVERYONE. It just is. That being said… keep making QUALITY music and you’re time will come. Trust."

What shake says above is a big truth in the industry, especially when trying to be put on. It helps me be more relaxed and know that there will be a time frame for me and just like i previously stated when that opportunity comes i have to grab it.

P.S. this is the video that ignited the excerpt:

The Question

hey yall,

I know i haven't written an actual entry in a while but i just had something on my mind. I just dropped a new song and video (below) and i must admit it definitely IS, the best one yet. And i'm promoting it like crazy because i have the confidence that this song will impress somebody. But my question is about what about the people it doesn't impress? They're not the haters, who dislike without reason, they are the people who aren't convinced WITH reasons. I sent it to a couple of people who are in a good position musically and they gave me some advice, which i will definitely note when i write new songs. But i just wonder does every new artist worry about this? Do the rappers who are known on blogs, feel this way? Or have they become numb to dislike and continue to do what they're like.

The next and probably last song, i will release before the mixtape is "Dreamchaser" what i would like to think is the official single. I like the song but not sure how much, therefore it makes me question how everyone else will feel when it drops. I've re-recorded it a couple times and have one more re-do to do because i want it to be perfect. I plan on puttig it on itunes and want some OD OFFICIAL ARTWORK as well as an amazing video which might amp what the song lacks, if anything. Lyrically and flow wise it's pretty good, i must say. Roc's production is mellow but smooth. And everyone who has heard it so far says it's dope so maybe it's just me. of course, i want everyone to like it and catch on but it's definitely not easy. I'm sending my songs to blogs all over the place and only a few have posted it and maybe they are the only ones that have read it. WHO KNOWS.

I just can't give up and be persistant and FOCUSED. I can't let my insecurity, which has a been a big problem in the success of my life, get in the way. So now that i got this off my chest...i'm off to chase my dream

Dad's Goatee by Jonathan Andrew

Fuzz buzz cut
perfect Sicilian
square slice
mounted from
under his nose
above his top lip
down the side
like a playground s

Swinging around
firm chin skin
identity confirmation
for me, the
ten year replica
except thinner
and less hairy

“daddy, don’t

deprived voice
box yells. Horror
of hot shaving
cream smothered
like kids using

I needed
to feel

kissed me
with warm

Sometimes I Wonder...

Hey yall,

Just finished my bball game. We lost 75-70. I kinda choked. 8 pts. When I was avg. 15. Missed 3 floaters, 5 layups and 3 three pointers. So I was 3/11, 2/2 for the free throwline. It was an epic game tho. Nothing I can be mad about. Played my heart out and brought the best out of my team...the way I use to.

I also got all my grades back, I wanna figure out the whole avg for the semester. I got an Aplus,Aminus, Bplus, B, and a C. Or in highschool terms...103, 93, 88, 85, and a 75. Definitely my best semester but still a little dissappointed. I really tried hard this semester. On time to class a lot (still late a lot tho), handing in work early, (a few stuff late still) but definitely worked hard. I thought I deserved an A- in classical cultures but I guess not...

Anyway, this entry is mainly about destiny or god or well a combination of a bunch of things. Have you ever heard the saying "god only gives you things you can handle" or stuff around that. Well I've been seeing that a lot lately and it reminds me of this movie, evan almhighty where morgan freeman or somebody said, would god give you strength or a situation where you could display you're strength. And I feel like this is somewhat true or maybe really true and if it is, indeed true, how do I overcome what's in front of me.

How do I go from being the 13/14 man on a team to being a good college player, someone who can play, cause I can play ball. I've done it, proved it, shown it. I'm not the greatest by any means but I'm a good player... And somewhere deep down I know this and so do other people, I know they do cause they've seen it too. But how do I accomplish that? How do I accomplish the impossible. This is my year. It's a year where things get proven. Can we win without rich... Can we win without 3 1,000scorers. With 3 new starters. Who's the bench gunna be. Etc. So many questions and truthfully my goal...is to be that 8th man. Who gets about 5-15mins a game. Who does what needs to be done. Brings energy. Brings fire. Defense. Spark. I can do that but how... With things in life...I have this mental block. This thing that stops me from being well great, and sometimes just good. And it's not just with music and writing, which I've heard I'm way better at...and will discuss in a minute about...but just this basketball shit. I feel like the time is NOW. THE MOTHERFUCKING TIME IS NOW. TIME to get a job and play ball. Maybe the reason I don't have a job is to focus on music and ball. Maybe god wants me to realize this. Maybe he wants me to work harder than I ever have in my life to let me know that my dreams can be achieved. That dreams can be reality....

Is this his grand plan to see me succeed? Has he shown me enough of my mistakes that this is...maybe my last opportunity to prove something to the world...musically. Family wise. Girlfriend wise (no I don't have one...yet), and basketball wise.

I've always prided myself on being different. On being self motivated. I've proved it. I've never reached the top. I've scratched the surface. And history has a funny way of repeating itself...in good ways... Not just bad. So am I feeling this way because it truly is time to do what no one I know, parent, grown up, friend, kids, everyone has everydone...succeed beyond what the mind can fathom...

I don't know where I get this deep feeling from but I just know great things can come but I have to grab it. Failing has taught me that. When I lost the division my senior year and basically threw away my seniorgame by having a 3minute lapse after killing I've learned. Life is a bitch but you gotta grab that bitch from behind and turn it around and kiss it. From kissing u can get head and fuck that bitch. Fuck her till you succeed.

When I lost that game my senior year...Þhat I remember like yesterday...everyone said it would be alright, I had bigger things coming for me. Never knew those big things could be at brooklyn college. Brooklyn college aka the new RFK for me. I had my first scout. Me, my first scout. No one told me I could do it. NO one said jonathan you know you could play college ball and be a good player and if u work hard a great fucking player. No one told me I could average 12 assists per game and win a psal award (that I thought I'd lost). Matter fact, not anybody believed me. And I have this fake cokiness or I did which made a dent but never a big difference. But I need confidence...confidence within. I need to make this happen. I hate talking. I love action. And this is something I need...

Do yall believe...
Regardless of my bitterness
Regardless of my lateness
My lies, my failures, my insecurities...do yall feel and see what I do?

Probably not and that's okay. Pressure makes a man. Well how you handle pressure makes you a man.

I know I've wrote a lot but there's a few more things to touch on that relate to this topic...

Father:
My father is anakin skywalker in my life. He did many of the same things but fucked up...he coulda been so much more and still can be. He may never be that famous dj but he can learn how to be...well a good father, a good husband, a hard worker and come to terms with my mom. I judge my mom a lot too. It's equally split in fault but something about my dad...for me...was always missing. Not going to games. Not doing enough with me. Not teaching me how to be a man. Manage money. Giving me taxes on time. just being a father.

When I was living with him for those last two years in highschool, my dad cried a few times...before that I had only seen him cry maybe once or twice. I vividly remember one time. And I knew that meant something. The fact that he had his son and his other children and he had a family. A fucked up one but still a family. And as a footnote, I accomplished evertything in hs while living under that roof...amazingly.

but anyway, my dad only has two children left. Two children I hope he doesn't fuck up as much as he did with me and my sisters. I hope JP is fucking amazing when he gets older... And I'm a help that motherfucker as much as I can. I know that, he probably doesn't even know that he has an older brother now but soon, he will. I promise that.and ava will have an older brother too.

Anyway, I've been realizing that it's time to be more of a man...to call my dad, my mom, talk to sam, and show my father what it means to be a man (and a father, one day). I gotta do what I've been afraid to do and fix MY family. And this all goes back to me feeling that I'm going to make it. In whatever I do but hopefully in music...again, it starts now.

Last thing:
Yesterday I saw my uncle, mike, for the first time. I just love that man. I don't look up to him like I use to, but that's my nigga. My uncle. My competition and my brother, who always seem to look out for me. It felt good to he there. And I talked to DV for a little while I was with him and I told him I smoked...well smoked for the occassion. Fuck it. I'm my own man, I should be able to decide when I can do certain things...and he said smh, enjoy. Made me kinda tight. I'm sure he just said it, like why me, why his little brother he usually does the right thing but truthfully, if he knows that or thought that, no need for the smh. It's just something that's been apart of me since 14. Anyway, I'm gunna see mike again tomorrow, and finish recording a song...which I was really self-concious about. Idk what it is but when I do music with mike, I get uncomfortable...well almost anybody I do but with him especially. I'm the little nigga and I'm not exactly "little" anymore so I feel like I gotta step up but again no confidence. So tomorrow, I gotta prove something...again and everyday.

Phew.
Sorry about all that. Just needed to get that off.
Hope everyone is good. Got an early workout in the A.M.

One of My Personal Favorites

Hey yall, sorry that the blogging this month has been extremely slow. I'm going to start picking it up today soooo the first entry of the day to break the ice will be an unheard/unrecorded verse for one of my love records I had written about a year and change ago. Any thoughts and constructive critism is always welcome. (Key word: constructive)

Is it a front that you're putting up
Or have you dated a lot of jerks, and you just had enough
Just so fed up, but you ain't kevin, so don't give up
Don't let up, come with me and let's live it up
I can promise all the cliche's on-an-y typical day, on a regular ba-sis
If we tie the knot, sort of like laces
We can go any place, your little heart desires
I'll carry the matches anywhere we go, so the fire
Never dies out, I know life never plays out
The way you want it, but our love, you can flaunt it
On your sleeves, you just got to believe
Read a wrist, you got to believe, in me,
Believe me, I know you're scarred and very scared,
But baby, truth or dare?
How about you dare me to tell the truth and I'll swear
On everything I love, that you're everything I love
You're music, my heart, and my life
All the above, and it's all that I love
I do this all out of love and just because

Recommendation Part 10: Get Your Dose of Normalcy and V5!

Here's the link:http://www.mediafire.com/?ntynj3rjjzm
*If the link doesn't work, visit datpiff.com or 2dopeboyz.com or whereischarleshamilton.com

This cd is Charles Hamilton at his finest, so i've read, not officially heard, but from the leaks it sounds like the old Charles mixed in with some new shit. I'm actually listening to it while i type but it takes me time to digest music. Anywho, my man (pause) is back, so please try and fuck with it. I've promoted Charles Hamilton o.d. on this site and i will continue regardless of any shananigans because he's dope. Wierd but being NORMAL is never in, ya dig. Plus Charles's music has helped influence my music and helped me get through tough situations that i dealt with last year.

New banks!!! Wooo man you already know. I love Lloyd Banks as a rapper but he's not very versatile. He's definitely improved and is showing his growth as an artist. Doing shit without 50 or any features really. Banks holds his own as the punchline king aka PLK. If you want dope music, i always recommend Banks. Although i can't listen to him to much, he's definitely influence my metaphors as well and from what i've heard this is dopest mixtape yet. So roll up a blunt and roll with it!

Special Bonus:

http://usershare.net/jhrfvrdz6qv8
As i special bonus, i added the homie B/A aka Bagdad aka Hansommanson. This dude right here is pretty talented and is a friend/associate of Charles Hamilton. I talk to him on twitter, he's a Harlem Representative, and hopefully i can do a couple tracks with him and put him on my mixtape. This was one of the surprise features i'm working on but i just need the DOPIUM MUSIC. So download the homie B/A too.

Forever (Jam) Young

I still personally like the name "Jam Young" but i was thinking...would just using my real name be better. I'm still debating but for now it stands.

I'm posting this video, probably because it just came out, i know a lot of you guys will like it, and because my ex-bf Marc, said this to me about it... (i'm paraphrasing of course).

"And by the way, Forever Young should have been your song"

So wait until i get my hands on the instrumental :) Thanks Marc

Quick Post

What's good guys. My eyes are starting to hurt. Been up procrastinating on my work. So sad. I feel like a dissappointment even though in other areas i'm gaining a little confidence and what not. Tomorrow night i'm going to the studio after i go to RFK, for the fourth time this week. Crazy, I KNOW. I hope i'm not a loser. I just inspire people in the building and that inspires me. It's like a reminder of what i was and what i can be it's strange. Today i practiced with the boys and i thought it was a better practice and more productive then the one on monday. I got stronger (thanks Mulstay) and showed these young boys HOW it's done. :) yes i'm a big boy now lol.

I also ended up staying for the girls game. Didn't plan to stay for the whole thing but kinda glad i did. I saw an old friend of mine, who just so happens to be the coach. She did a terrific job and so did the girls. I think a couple of them took my advice AND hers and definitely did much better, which is a PLUS. Made me feel OLD and SMART... so this is what it feels like to get older lol. I don't want to be 20 yet, so let me just enjoy the rest of 2009, while i still can.

FYI i have off this week but have some MAJOR work to do. OH god please give me the strength to get it done. Today was my work day and i didn't do shit. FUCK. i'm getting fustrated again and after all the positive.

Just wanna say let's go trev and let's go me for the music session. I GOT to post up my article that was published on an online paper. I'll explain later. Hope people are still reading this and checking up on me. It's always well appreciated. TRUST ME.

Mood Ring Part 13: Wale, J.Cole, & Melanie Fiona "Beautiful Bliss"

This song is my new anthem. Both Wale's verses are on point and well J.Cole is a beast. Already one of my favorite artists with only 4 official mixtapes, and 2 like real mixtapes. He's definitely the next upcoming thing and i hope he forever keeps it real and has longevity in this crappy hip-hop industry. If i had to do a song with someone right now (besides Eminem, Kanye, and Jay-Z of course) it would definitely be him. Just take 5 minutes out of your day, turn off the lights, turn this song up and enjoy. I want a song just like this to be my first ever single. DIG IT!

Poetic Practice

Everytime I try to do, something for you
It's like I'm doing wrong to you, ain't nothing right that I can do, I'm like a sickness, swine flu, with no medicine
There you go, getting into my head-again, there you go, telling me you won't give me head-again, if I don't head out and make some friends, make some ends, so I take my pen,

And do just that, make friends with my fans, make ends from the raps, but you still complain,
Nothing good that I can do, too young, too immature, too hood for you, well if that's true
I can totally understand why where at, where we're at,
Trying climb up the hill cause there ain't no flat, lands, just a bad, man, but no one can do what I can, I swear

Yet no one believes me...
Yet no one wanna tell me how they miss me, wanna see me, NOPE,
A year passes, burning like some acid, ashes, rashes, nasty, ugh, need some asses, in handy, instead of my hand be, which I don't even use,
Cause the paper I abuse, with the gears in my mind, my troubles are my tools,
Wreckless fools, leave me with no food

But I hunt, and make the best of it, trying not to mess with it, whatever suboncious thoughts are under my fitted

It is what it is, either I got the golden ticket, or I survive through my endeavors and learn to live with it...you feel it...

Poetic Practice, got me exposed like a cactus, no shades, everydays, like this,, survive through my endeavors and learn to live with it, ya dig it?

Artist Exposure Section: Introducting Karlovy "Knowing You a Fan..."

Above me, is the first official video i believe that any Gwopp Gettaz/K.O.S member has ever done. The video features many of the members in Gwopp Gettaz/K.O.S. but the most important one at the moment if Karlovy (use to have Sanchez @ the end).

Karlovy is somebody I've personally known for almost 4 years now. He's actually the first person outside of the little crew i had that i did a song with. I respected that. He was part of the Hidden Hand movement at one time, which i use to associate with but now everybody is a new group, and Karlovy is trying to make real moves. The first by creating this video and second dropping his second solo mixtape, which I'm hoping should be dope. I personally like him, a lot of his music. He's definitely got better and in the scheme of things is my competition, it's a friendly competition though. So in honor of his moves and for the respect i have for him, i decided to be nice and put up his video WHICH I HOPE THAT EVERYONE VIEWS.

The song is one of the best ones i've heard from him. Dre, Karlovy's real name, has a unique sound to his voice and in my opinion a lot of potential which i hope he can transform into a career. I don't necessarily agree with everything he or anyone else is doing but i respect it and until i get my shit together, i cannot vocalize that opinion very often. We've been out of contact in recent but i hope i can get some records done with him and the crew. I wish him the best of luck and will be talking about him further as my music career is moving out of the station.

Tell me what you guys think....my opinon will be said LATER lol

:)

"Real As It Gets"

Hey yall,

I actuallý have an entry to finish if I rememver what I was writing about lol. either it doesn't matter I got to update you guys on the recent events, emotions, and whatever the hell else I can think of!

Oh by the way the Kid Cudi album is out today, must I repeat myself gooooo coooopppp thhhaaattt at your nearest target. I feel bad though because I know it's gunna be dope but I'm a still be more on that BP3 shit, that's party why I didn't buy Raekwon's album. I will. I promise lol.

I been feeling crazy stressed of late but it's weird cuz I'm stressed and feeling good. It's weird. Anyway, as some may now I had my first track meet on sunday morning at 11. I had to wake up at 6 50. I also was neverous as hell but after listening to run this town with the beautiful weather and wonderful competition I was quite hype.

I started and was like oh shit, fuck my life lol but as I kept going I was getting more excited and inspired. Seeing others trying to pass me, other's who are skinny, others who thought they would do real good, fall off while I jogged right passed them felt sooooo good. Plus the weather and I was decently prepared. I wouldn't have broke any records but for my self-esteem and for my own standards I would've made my own records.

I woudld've strarted.a new precendent and chaper in my life. Ironically I didn't finish the race because I was directed the wrong way. I did feel like it was too short but when I saw the finish line I booked it and was feeling good. I could've ran more I'm not gunna front. I was feeling stupendous. Sooo good that I was gunna do anything to finish the race.

Anyway, next sunday I'm a get em. I swear!

Sidenote: I already lost 4 pounds. I'm feeling better. I'm not taking these fat comments to heart anymore fuck it.

On the basketball tip: I feel very awkward. My jumpshot, which improved last year, makes me feel real uncomfortable. My form is sooo weird. Anyway, I did decent yesterday. Scored a couple points, hustled, played d. Once I get my confidence near the clouds, which I'm sure will be soon, I'm gunna dribble the ball, go to the basket, pass the ball, control shit and hit my mid-range jumpshot.

Yesterday no one called me fat either. Haha.

People see me working hard. Marlon made me feel good when we were lifting weights together. It did feel mad good. I'm doing pushups and crunches at home. I'm not letting anything faze me.

Aslong as I show that I'm hard-working no one's gunna take my spot and people let me know that.

So I'm goooooddddd. But I wanna be better. Holl@!

So this past weekend was alright, played a litle ball, just chilled. I'm actually pretty proud of myself, I did some bold, but positive things this weekend, which I miss dearly.

That's life though, sometimes even when you work hard, put in work, you may never obtain everything you want. Fuck it!

I'm tired, just got to class. 7 hours is not enough for me.

Tonight I have to go to work and work on my first paper of the year. I actually have 2 coming up too.

Fuck life lol.

Anyway, I might give up my second day or trade it for saturday. I just got to fill out my loan. Damn I can be maaaaddd lazy sometimes. Oh well. I'm taking on all challenges and challengers.

"Ooo, they want me to fall, fall from the top, they want to drop, they want to stop, they want me to go...but I'm already home, HEY, I'm already home"

Jam The Fuck Out
